The Program |
| Montessori
School of Linda Mar offers an 11 month, (September to
July) Academic Preschool and Kindergarten Program for
children 2 to 6 years of age. |
The Montessori teaching method allows
children to work independently and at their own pace.
The teacher guides the child through the learning process
and presents new material as each area is mastered. This
ensures success rather than frustration.
-
The emphasis is put on the
process of learning.
The Montessori method encourages mastery
of self-discipline, confidence and social competence within
a safe setting.

Preschool Curriculum
The classroom is a "prepared environment" for
children to learn.
-
The preschool curriculum involves activities where children
participate in a series of sequential, manipulative and sensorial
activities that lead them from an abstract to concrete conceptual
learning experience.
The Montessori materials used are arranged on low, open shelves
so that they invite children to learn. The materials are self-correcting
as the child can easily perceive and correct any errors in the
process. There is no need for adult correction.
The environment is comfortable and includes familiar, consistent
daily activities such as specials toys, puzzles, manipulative
games, oral sounds, rhyming games, colors and numbers.
The child is able to solve problems by him/herself, building
independence, analytical thinking and the satisfaction of their
accomplishment. As the child's exploration continues, the materials
interrelate and build upon each other.
Kindergarten Curriculum
The Kindergarten year is the most significant of the three-year
progression. A teacher offers individual attention to each child's
progress and integrates the child's own experience in small groups.
-
The teacher provides support for the child's
physical, emotional and intellectual abilities to enhance self-esteem
and self-discipline.
-
Between five and six years of age our Kindergarten
graduates are for the most part well prepared to meet academic
and social challenges well beyond their age level.
The Curriculum Includes
- Reading (by phonics)
- Math
- Geography and Science
- Art and Music
- Writing (penmanship)
- Botany
- Cultural Lessons
